Terms of Use
Last updated: July 26, 2026
These terms govern use of the Share applications, optional self-hosted servers, and this website. They are a practical baseline for store listings and users—not a substitute for legal advice.
1. Acceptance
By using Share (web, Android, iOS, desktop, or self-hosted instances you connect to), you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Share.
2. The service
Share provides tools to transfer files peer-to-peer between devices, typically on a local network or phone hotspot, with signaling to help peers connect. Features may change as the project develops. Store builds and self-hosted builds may differ slightly in packaging.
3. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for the files you send and for having the right to share them.
- You must not use Share for unlawful content, harassment, malware distribution, or to violate others’ rights.
- You must not attempt to disrupt signaling servers, rooms, or other users’ devices beyond normal use of the product.
- If you host a server (phone host, NAS, VPS), you are responsible for who can reach it and for securing that environment.
4. No accounts (typical use)
Default use does not require creating a Share account. Display names and room codes are for session coordination only.
5. Availability and fitness
Share is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law. Peer-to-peer networking can fail due to firewalls, NAT, VPNs, OS limits, or user cancellation. Offline/hotspot use depends on device capabilities and local network configuration.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the authors and distributors of Share are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or business, arising from your use of Share. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the software.
7. Third-party services
Optional components (public STUN, GitHub Pages hosting of this site, OS app stores) are governed by their own terms. Share is not responsible for third-party outages or policies.
8. Open source and licensing
Source code licensing is defined by the license file(s) in the project repository, if any. If no license is published, all rights remain reserved unless otherwise stated by the copyright holder.
9. App stores
When you download Share from Google Play, the Apple App Store, Microsoft Store, or another store, that store’s terms also apply to the distribution relationship. These Terms apply to your use of the Share software itself.
10. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance where allowed by law.
